We have before us an historical moment: One in which we are being called upon as the people of God to engage in the process of making our voice known in regards to the two issues that are presented in the next election cycle.

Below you will find a copy of the amendments in question here for your review. One pertains to marriage and one pertains to abortion, or as it is stated in the amendment, reproduction rights. Please prayerfully and carefully read these amendments.

• Marriage: Virginia HJ9 which violates God's design for marriage (Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:4-6)
• Family (children): Virginia HB781 which disregards the Sanctity of Human Life (Psalm 139:13-16)

Whereas both of these issues are human issues, the problems and pain associated with them can be met with the Grace of God. Specifically, we are partners with Bloom, Richmond Pregnancy Resource Center, which is equipped to assist young couples in the discovery of surprise pregnancy.

My hope is that we participate in the unique privilege of the voting process as Followers of Christ. My Hope also is that we engage with our community with dignity and respect toward those we are talking with, as they are also Image Bearers of our Creator.

We will be praying specifically for these issues as a church family in our worship services in the weeks to come. Early voting opens on September 18, and Voting Day is November 3.
